Director of Membership and Business Development

Carilyn Burman

Carilyn joined the APM as Director of Membership and Business Development in April 2023. Over the last 20 years Carilyn has worked for a number of professional membership bodies and trade associations in a variety of sectors including The IET, CIBSE, ICAEW and CILEX Regulation. Carilyn has worked on a number of projects and new initiatives over the years including implementing new CRM systems, launching new international branches and regions and developing new membership propositions. She enjoys supporting members in their careers and helping support their professional development.

In her current role, Carilyn is responsible for APM’s revenue-generating activities, including membership, corporate partnerships, qualification sales and international growth. She puts APM’s members – both individual and corporate – at the heart of her decision-making, stating that customer focus and a strategic approach are important factors in achieving objectives.

Partnership Development Team

Caspar Bartington – Head of Commercial Partnerships

I joined APM in December 2017 as its Education Manager, before becoming Head of Volunteer and Education Engagement in June 2020.

I became Head of Commercial Partnerships in January 2023, leading the excellent team of your PDMs. My responsibilities include developing the corporate partner proposition so do please reach out to me with your suggestions.

Prior to joining APM I worked in a range of account management, marketing and relationship management roles with clients in and out of the UK.

Sophie Lawrence - Partnership Development Manager

I joined APM in June 2022 with a wealth of experience working predominantly in business development and events.
My responsibilities within the membership team:
Account management – building relationships with corporate clients and providing a directly link to APM resources. Specifically the public sector and charity members.

  • Corporate partner events/webinars – both organising and supporting of events for corporate members and their employees.

  • Promote and drive growth across all APM products including individual membership, qualifications and ChPP. Corporate accreditation – assist corporate members in the ascertaining/retention of corporate accreditation.

  • Work closely with other areas within APM to raise awareness and offer support.

Ben Start - Partnership Development Manager

I joined APM in 2016 as part of the Service Innovations team and worked my way through the department ending up as the team leader for qualifications. I have a background of consultative sales and account management from my time working in the ‘daily deals’ market.

  • My responsibilities within the membership team include:

  • Account management – of corporate partners and affiliates.

  • Corporate partner events/webinars – both organising and supporting of events for corporate members.

  • Drive engagement and sales – with all corporate members across all aspects of APM, including qualifications, membership and ChPP.

  • Corporate accreditation – assist corporate members in the ascertaining/retention of corporate accreditation.

Austin Witney - Partnership Development Manager

I joined APM at the beginning of 2016 following 12 years in the manufacturing industry, where building relationships and communication were key in supporting clients based all over the world.

APM has evolved and progressed significantly during my time here, and it is part of my role to ensure that my key Corporate Partners are introduced to the many new developments and opportunities introduced to the profession. Working with organisations across many sectors, my aim is to raise awareness across your Project Management community and help build Project Management capability.

I enjoy spending my spare time running, biking and I am also a football coach for my sons team. Quality family life is also important for me.

Amelia Spencer - Partnership Development Manager

I joined APM as a Partnership Development Manager in April 2023, with a background of managing partnerships and key accounts in other sectors.
My main role at APM is to help my corporate partners to get as much value from our partnership as possible. This includes supporting those looking to take qualifications and chartership, APM membership, as well as supporting at events and conferences.

Outside of work, I enjoy getting outdoors with my Golden Retriever, travelling and spending time with family.

Michael Thomas – Business Development Coordinator

I joined APM in September 2019 as part of the Service Innovation team supporting the operational side of APM Events, Individual Memberships, and our Corporate Partnership Programme before transferring into my new role at the beginning of 2023.

My responsibilities at present include supporting all our Affiliate organisations, ensuring the upmost is extracted out of their partnership benefits, while also spreading awareness of the various opportunities APM offers.

Business Development Team

Dina Khalidi - Head of Business Development

I joined APM in March 2023 as Head of Business Development. My background is working in Professional bodies, leading teams to grow partnerships and foster relationships both in the UK and internationally.

My role within APM is to lead the Business development team to engage with Corporates across all sectors and all industries regardless of their location or size. Please do reach out to me to find out more about how you can become a APM partner.

Marcus Pathan - Senior International Development Manager

I joined APM as a Partnership Development Manager in September 2017 and am responsible for supporting a number of our Corporate Partners. This includes offering advice and support on key areas such as qualifications, events, CPD, Accreditation and Chartership.

Prior to joining APM, I worked for several years in the media and press industry. Most recently working for ABC, a not for profit membership body of national and International publications.
Outside of work I enjoy music, travelling, sport, reading and am an avid skier.

Gavin Spencer - Senior Business Development Manager

I am passionate about helping organisations grow, develop their staff and thrive, having spent 16 years working in a similar not for profit organisation, the Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce Group in a variety of business development, key account management and leadership roles.

I joined APM in November 2021 and my role at APM is to raise the profile of the organisation penetrating new sectors & markets which include;

  • Life Sciences/Pharmaceutical/BioPharma and Healthcare

  • Financial & Legal Services

  • Space

  • Local Authorities

  • UK house builders

Angela King - Business Development Manager

My current role, as BDM within the membership team ultimately involves generating new business and supporting and growing corporate partner and affiliate membership.

Dionne Suppiah – Membership Development Manager

I joined APM in September 2022 as Membership Development Manager.
My responsibilities include growing the individual membership base and improving the membership journey and engagement.

Prior to joining APM I worked in a mixture of industries including IT, Graphic Design and the fitness industry including managing a running shop. What all my roles have had in common is their client management and customer relationship management.

I am happy to discuss individual membership and always looking for new ideas and best practices.
